Cleaning of a small photovoltaic installation

Cleaning a small photovoltaic installation, a small town near Częstochowa in the Silesia. Is it worth washing a small PV installation?

Many customers wonder if washing smaller solar installations makes sense? Will the costs incurred pay off? – With such an inquiry inquiry We were approached by a customer who owns a micro installation of 3.72 kWp. The 11 panels, each of 310W, were installed nearly 4 years ago and have never been cleaned.

Dirty photovoltaic panels

The countryside – that is, a small town usually located among agricultural fields – that is, in agriculturally active areas. Tumans of dust, spraying, bird droppings and additionally dusty trees in spring are the main reasons for dirt on photovoltaic modules.

Although the modules were mounted on the roof of an outbuilding, all the dirt settled on the surface of the panels and at the frames.

Thus:

We set a date with the client for the service of cleaning a small photovoltaic installation and then went to clean the small installation as planned.

When we arrived at the client first thing in the morning the weather did not spoil us. It was “crisp.” The cool morning was favorable for the team to carry out the order. We started by unpacking the equipment from the car and connecting to water and electricity. The outbuilding was not high and we could climb it using a ladder. Two rows of photovoltaic panels stacked on the roof – 5 in the farther row and 6 in the closer row. After a few minutes of getting ready for work, the team started cleaning the modules. Panel by panel, until after washing about half of them, the gentlemen noticed a cracked module surface. The owner, unfortunately, had no idea about the damaged component. He also did not know what caused the damage. He could only guess that it was the result of a windstorm that hit the locality two / three months earlier.

The men finished their work, namely washing the small photovoltaic installation, after 2 hours. After contact with our service department The client also commissioned us to inspection of the photovoltaic installation. However, the damaged photovoltaic panel was replaced with a new one and the old one was given away for recycling. After all, a cracked module is a safety hazard.
